Restaurant review: Ojai Burger, Orange

Topa Topa chicken sandwich.

A stroll through Ojai’s historic arcade will inevitably lead you to Yume Burger. There, you’ll find beguiling Japanese-style Wagyu burgers slicked with spicy miso sauce alongside furikake-dusted loaded fries. That delicious journey of discovery led a group of restaurateurs to partner with Yume Burger owners Takeshi and Chikage Ozaki to open Ojai Burger in Old Towne Orange. The Chief Peak burger tops its Wagyu patty with rich demi-glace and sautéed onions and mushrooms, while the Menchi Katsu burger is pure decadence: a fried Wagyu patty atop shredded cabbage finished with tangy katsu sauce.

For those who prefer bird over beef, the Topa Topa chicken sandwich packs its brioche bun with karaage fried chicken, garlic Dijon sauce, avocado, crispy onions, and Japanese mayo. Add an order of okonomi fries topped with umami-heavy okonomi sauce, mayo, furikake, and bonito flakes and you may just want to book an Ojai trip yourself.
