Who doesn’t like a bargain? Base prices for Genesis’ first luxury compact SUV, new for 2022, range from just shy of $43,000 to nearly $55,000.
The least expensive GV70 2.5T has enough standard stuff—a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (300 hp), AWD, navigation, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and a slew of advanced safety features—that many drivers won’t want for more. Its price also undercuts competitors like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 by thousands of dollars.
But step up to the top-of-the-line GV70 3.5T version with the Sport Prestige package and you’ll get a turbo V6 (375 hp) plus additional goodies such as leather upholstery, a sunroof, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Press the throttle and the V6 nails your lumbar region to the back of the seat—although its fuel economy suffers compared to the 4-cylinder version. Premium gas is recommended for both. Moreover, the GV70’s competent chassis delivers agile handling, rounding curves with little body lean.
Front-seat occupants are cosseted with comfy seats, a smooth ride, and library-like interior-noise levels, although rear legroom is tight. Controls are generally intuitive, but adjacent rotary dials for gear selection and multimedia might cause confusion. The GV70’s styling is truly head-turning, belying its reasonable price point.
